City Council District 4
A Letter from Councilmember Dwaine Caraway
Dear District Four resident:
For the past five years, I have worked tirelessly in a leadership roles as Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem. While you may see me working on large projects on behalf of the entire city, I’m also focused on our mission to improve District Four “One Block at a Time.”
As most of you know, I’m not afraid to speak my mind. Nor do I sit on the sidelines when I see an opportunity to make our district better. I want you to join me and be part of the crusade to clean-up District 4 and make it safe and prosperous for all of us.
To bring the development that District Four deserves, we must continue to work together and clean up our neighborhoods. From clean-up days to increased code enforcement, our efforts are making a difference.
All over the District, I have been working with members of our community to clean up crime trouble spots and remove blight from our neighborhoods. As promised, as soon as I got on Council, I went after drug houses and drug dealers; got abandoned houses knocked down and cleaned up; and worked with police to attack crime at car washes and convenience stores. I keep telling little boys who sag to pull up their pants and have respect. That message went national and encouraged other cities across North Texas and the nation, including Fort Worth and Dublin, Georgia to take note and follow my lead.
I have hosted dozens of teen summits at City Hall – all with positive themes - to make sure our youth get on a path to success and prosperity. Due to the elimination of the City of Dallas Youth Commission (DYC), I formed the Dallas Youth Council so our young citizens maintained their voice and connection to city government. This year, the DYC visited Arkansas, with stops to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Philander Smith College and the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Museum and Central High School.
Reducing crime and increasing our quality of life have always been my issues and it is what I promised the people in my district what I would work on. I created two gun buy back programs, one held jointly with Fort Worth that successfully took 300 guns off the streets of Dallas.
More than ever, I need your help, so we can continue to work together to make District Four the best in the city. You may contact my office with any concerns, ideas or suggestions. Together, we can make our district a better place to live and raise our families.
Best Regards,
Dwaine R. Caraway
